Windows 7 32-bit is the best of both worlds. But I love XP, and have 2 laptops and several XP mobile devices. Both XP and Win 7 can run Dos Apps and Windows, without Dosbox or Dosbox-x.

Re: Complaints about the modern desktop
I'll go with Andy on this one.
we use vDos. its very simple to setup and powerfull enough. we run all the old clipper programs in that on windows 10 and windows server 2019.
I am still missing Windows 7 and XP. Windows 10 is ok.
Personal opinion and i might be getting old but Windows 11 is an abomination. Certainly not even close to a full release state and they still released it.

Re: Complaints about the modern desktop
Haven't tried VDos, but I use iDosBox on my Android Tablets, and DosBox-X in Windows 10.
But there still add-ons, and it's kinda cool to run Dos Apps natively.
It's all nostalgia, I guess.
Will take a look at VDos, this month.

In my opinion, the problem is that if you are programmer, it doesn't matter that you like or don't like windows 10 or 11.
It's significant what your clients like because you are writing tools for them.

Right Marek! But some of them don't like too much changes every time. They like stability. Like I said before: If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Re: Complaints about the modern desktop
That doesn't apply, if you're writing tools for yourself. So if you want a pim that works in recent Windows versions as well as XP and Android and FreeDos, it's not your client's business what language or environment you focus on.
