A Perfect Grid ;)

Post by sudip »

Hi All,

Our favourite control, Grid, has been improved very much, since I started HMG :D
I wrote many posts regarding my wishes about grid. Roberto gave us most of it :D Now, can you please write, what do you want more about grid? :) Some very good ideas may come out from your posts. I don't want to request Roberto to implement them (as this may disrub his development and our HMG may become complex), but this will be a useful documentation regarding our ideas about grid :)

Thanks in advace :)

With best regards.

Thanks Sudip for initiating this thread..... this can be a reference thread related to Grid as what's available and the Wish List...

GRID is really a very very important tool in our real life projects - it is needed in entry forms as well as in reports.

01. Wallpaper Property with Alignment

Wallpaper Property with Alignment- with this we can set any Picture in the background of the grid and in the foreground the normal entry screen or report layout..... this added feature can be helpful in making entry/reports more attractive or purposeful.

This feature is available in ComponentOne's Grid...... which long time back I've used it while doing project in vb6.
Thanks & Regards,
Swapan Das

Some of my thoughts:

1. Selection of a set of rows/columns or range for clipboard copy
2. Direct entry into cell. By saving an 'ENTER' key stroke.
3. Font effects for a particular row/col/cell to highlight.
4. Tree element into grids for grouping records.

Will continue...
East or West HMG is the Best.
South or North HMG is worth.
...the possibilities are endless.

Navigation in grid :
Using Pg UP, Pg Down, Home and End key as in old Browse clipper style.

Home - begin of row on screen
End - end of row on screen
Ctrl Home - begin of row
Ctrl End - end of row

Pg Up -one screen up
Pg Down - one screen down
Ctrl Up - first row
Ctrl Down - Last row

Best regards Rado

As I've not used the HMG grid for any real life project - so not sure about all the existing features of our grid. So I DIDN'T DARED to mention about this kind of features. :D

In my opinion, weak point of GRID is : loading a big (too many records) table consumes a lot of time :(

This is an usual real-time situation and BROWSE doesn't have such problem.

Regards, saludos

Dear Swapan,
I am also a very novice HMG user/student :) So, feel free to express your views. It's very important to all of us.

To All,
Thank you very much for expressing your wishes regarding grid. :)

I want to add my wish:

1. Any control including our CSB can be used with grid.
2. Lookup items of combo box can be refreshed with in the grid runtime easily (now I am doing it with an UDF sent by Rathi)
3. During navigation of grid, when any non-navigational key will be pressed, gird will go to edit mode, eg., Open Office Calc, Excel, VFP Grid etc. (Rathi, did you mention this point earlier in this thread? :) )

With best regards.

Sudip

If you add some items, it would be ok. But, if you delete some of the items, and that too an item in the grid row, then there will be problems.

Yes. That would save an extra "Enter" key stroke.

Yes, may be that's why Roberto didn't add this feature in HMG grid control commands :)

Someone said to me asking is gratis ( cost no money, ggg ) so here I go...
I'd like a "pivoted" grid. Where records go top to down instead of left to right.
