Post Scanning Data from Card
Hello All,

This is a very peculiar problem I am facing. I am creating a small software for storing personal data for my friends (yes, free of cost ;) ). One of my friends told me if there is a way to get data from card using card scanner. Frankly speaking, I never used this device :? . I programmed for Bar code scanner but not this device.

Can anyone please tell me about this device and does it work similar to bar-code scanner? If not, is there any way to get data from card scanner using HMG?

Thanks in advance. :)

With best regards.

Sudip

I think, you should search for description of transmitting protocol for this card reader.
If it works with RS 232, it will be easy to communicate.
Sometimes, card readers are connected with USB, but drivers create virtual COM port.

Last weeks I've worked with communication with fiscal printers and electronic registering cashes. So, Ican help you.

Hello Marek,

Thanks a lot :)

Do the card scanners create any text file? If yes, there may be a way to search from the text file.

The bar-code scanners I used (programmed for), produced codes like typing in keyboard :) and so it is very easy to work with hand held bar-code scanner.

With best regards.

Hi Sudip :)
Most works in the same way that the bar-code reader. Usually ships reading magnetic card has like entered from the keyboard (via PS2). No additional software is required for reading.
Greetings, Claudio
