I'm in Australia!

Hello all. My name is Alan Sharpham and I live in Perth, Western Australia. Many years ago I developed a complicated program in Clipper and it was very successful, although I admit it was fairly basic and I struggled to understand some of the Clipper commands. I have never worked in a Windows environment so I realise I need to slow down and try to learn as much as I can without jumping in the deep end.

The reference files that came with the HMG zip file are very helpful but also a bit daunting for someone who has never worked with GUI. I am grateful for the help I've received so far and have found the community very friendly and eager to assist.

Regards,
Alan

Thanks guys. Serge, I already have this documentation. It came with the HMG download and I use it often. It's extremely helpful documentation because it provides examples of commands and keywords. But every time I open someone's sample code I find commands that are not listed anywhere that I can find. I was wondering if there is a reference that covers every command and keyword that exists.

Am I asking too much?

Alan

No, not too much. We're asking the same: a complete reference guide.
If I find a command or function that is unknown to me I do following:
- find the more samples and then see how/what
- find with google: harbour clipper <whatyousearch>
- ask here: many very experienced users
At last:
- try to find out yourself...

Yes, you ask for impossible
Today there are no more real directions and books, everything is on the internet
But with HMG you have luck, a great compiler, a lot of examples and this forum where you will find a lot of responses
For the beginning try samples, there are many, the most important ones are \samples\Controls,
but do not forget the rest like \samples\basics

In DOCS see External Guides... you can see Harbour for beginners and Viva Clipper ... read and learn

Welcome to the club, we all passed this

Hi Alan:

You are Wellcome, and as i allways said, with HMG the only limit is your imagination.-
About commands and controlls they are very similar to Clipper 5.2/5.3.-
Although as all my colleagues said, take a look to DOCS included with HMG.-
A last word: HMG works similar as Clipper, but with an approach to OOP.-
Just believe HMG is fantastic.- Some time ago Masters include an app i develope, take a look at it and this will show you that the limit is your imagination (see SAMPLES\APPLICATIONS\Miniwriter).-
Everytime HMG grows with the effort and generosity of all members, and this community (the fellowship of HMG) is the best you can imagine.-
With regards.
