I saw this on the BBC website this morning, and immediately thought of those here who were hit by ransomware.
(Although they'd need to have been hit by Petya for this to be useful.)

Re: Ransomware virus
Thank you Serge. From what i've gathered since we've been hit last year, it is that the best weapon against these people is to raise the awareness of the users.serge_girard wrote:Just found this site in order to get rid of ransomware: https://www.nomoreransom.org
Serge
We need to backup as often as we can, we need to be cautious considering our security(firewalls, antivirus, etc..).
In my case last year they managed to get into the PC, by port scanning. They found an open port and then brute forced the password.took them 1-2 months probably but they did it. Unfortunately i wasn't running a firewall at the time, which is unacceptable these days.
The feeling of that day was......i dunno how to describe it, disgusted?violated?helpless? Really really bad experience. So yeah, take care of your data and your security people I think our work is really too precious to be lost. Not only about the money cost , but mostly about the intelectual part...
Thanks again and sorry for my rant
